JOHN BERAN

Strategic Advisory

Focus: Healthcare; Growth; Business Development; Executive Advisory

John is a “seasoned” but young at heart entrepreneur who uses his skills to help envision strategies to differentiate products and services from the competition and then use that differentiation to enter and dominate niche markets, or be first or better in large markets.

Highlights for John include a strong business foundation through public accounting with seven years at KPMG in Milwaukee where he was part of a 35,000 annual health care practice. John left KPMG for Aurora Health Care now part of Advocate health, the third largest health system in the United States. John was responsible for home care nursing, rehabilitation and hospice services as CFO while also serving as the start-up executive of a home infusion and durable medical business. Those lines of business dwarfed the home health nursing business and the collective lines of business grew to over $50 million in three years under his direction.

John was recruited to a home care company in Louisville, Kentucky and took the opportunity for his wife and kids to be near her family. While the business was eventually sold, John migrated into fractional CFO work and played finance and business development roles in industries ranging from film to semi-conductors.  As an angel investor and CEO, John parlayed a small start-up investment in an academic spin-off to create a multiplier of 1,200 times through a structured licensing royalty deal with the 3M company and Merck KGaA.

John continued academic spin-offs venturing into health care drug and device development where he helmed several biotech start-ups. Most recently, John led an animal health company and learned how to manufacture and market a screening test that used omni-channel marketing. This experience required integrating social media, thought leadership and trade shows to acquire customers. John’s work with the animal health company was part of a mentoring effort wherein he invested in the business with Reggie Gresham, a black business man and the chapter leader of 100 black men where he mentors’ men for future success in business and life.

John’s desire is to take his natural inclination towards strategic thinking to drive market growth using the leverage of sales, marketing and distribution partners in a pro-active and mutually beneficial relationship.

John gives back to the community by serving as a part-time chief strategy officer for New Directions Housing, an affordable housing non-profit in Louisville with over 900 units. The organization has grown into an innovative hot spot for programs aimed at developing and preserving wealth in the poorest of communities. Previous to New Directions, John formed a consortium of behavioral health centers with over $500,000,000 in revenues to prepare for technological changes including tele-health and value based care.

John graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and holds an MBA from Bellarmine university in Louisville.
